"I'm a muralist in the Portland area of Southern Maine who would love to decorate and enhance the interiors of your home or office. I work locally or travel to your site to create a custom-design for you. Each assignment is a one-of-a-kind freely created decoration, mural or painting from wall to card size!"
Alice Tweedie is an artist with a lifetime of professional
experience in the arts - especially theater and television, with a
strong emphasis on the visual. She has designed and built puppets,
costumes, sets and special effects for television (her studio in New
York City was featured on the "Today" show) and the stage.
She studied art at Antioch College, The University of Southern Maine, Maine College of Art, Spiral Arts, and at The New School and the Art Students League in New York City.
There is a strong sense of the theatrical in Alice's work. Her
visuals create mood, feel, or style, and tell a story at a glance.
They can transport a child into a benign jungle in his/her room.
Take the dining room to the seashore; ceilings into open skies;
delicate suggestions of birch trees growing from floor to ceiling in
the living room; or birds in the branches, and so forth. A kitchen
can sport an array of freshly picked herbs tied in bunches to dry on
the walls (done in trompe l'oeil) or Mexican tiles to add colorful
whimsy; art deco motifs; grape vines; sunsets, sunrises and more.
Whatever your imagination can dream up for your home or office,
Alice can paint it for you.
Her professional background in puppetry
for television (The Muppets, Shari Lewis, Capt. Kangaroo, etc.) and
stage invites paintings of puppet characters, puppet theaters and
scenes for your child's room, a daycare center or doctor's office.
Alice's paintings carry with them her love for nature and awe of the great outdoors. She returns again and again to the beauty and intricacy of a leaf, a bud, a tiny bird or to the sweeping mysteries of the wide open skies, of the ocean and sea, meadows and hills.
She will paint in a subtle, misty, impressionistic style using muted colors and suggestions of forms; or revel in bold, bright cheerful colors for a totally other effect. She is comfortable with styles from impressionistic washes to the very dainty style of detail, to abstract colorful design.
Rates vary according to the job; payment is per piece, not by the hour. Most jobs are in the middling range of $500; can be as low as $100 for a small bit of décor, and over $600 for a large, complex piece. Miss Tweedie prepares the surface, paints with "sized" acrylic artist's paints, and seals the painting with a polymer, to ensure durability and protection.
